Straidhavern Primary School, Crumlin

About

Staidhavern Primary is a short drive away from Belfast International Airport, Aldergrove and Crumlin. A rural school, we welcome pupils from all across the surrounding areas.

Parents and children love the family atmosphere that our school provides. We are proud to be a small school at the heart of the community, where each child is known and feels valued.

Whilst Straidhavern PS is a school with a primarily Christian ethos and outlook, we welcome pupils from all religious and cultural backgrounds to join us in a nurturing and inclusive environment that develops independence, responsibility, kindness and good manners through an extensive personal development and mutual understanding education programme. We welcome children of all faiths and none.

Our school is furnished with an inviting playground space with permanent playground games marked on the tarmac surface as well as grass for use for football and summer games. The school has its own sensory room/calming space which is used to support the emotional wellbeing of our pupils. We have our own bus fitted with seatbelts and the same driver each day. Children are transported safely and with a friendly face each day! Transport is free for those eligible, and applications can be made via the EA website.

Straidhavern Primary School has an excellent reputation for high quality pastoral care as well as high standards and we have incorporated the best of practice into our provision. We are proud to have a team of highly motivated and experienced individuals as our staff. We believe in lifelong learning, and as such our staff engage in courses regularly to ensure our pupils are afforded the highest quality of educational experiences.

Our physical environment pleasantly surprises visitors to the school with the spacious, new classrooms fitted with up to date interactive whiteboards, desktop and laptop computers as well as iPads in each class - our school may be 200 years old, but we certainly stay abreast of changes! Our well-established trees and spacious grounds provide the perfect setting for outdoor learning opportunities, nestled safely within our grounds.

The school day begins for our pupils at 9am (although we offer breakfast club from 7.45am, which our parents find hugely beneficial!). Primary 1 and 2 finish at 2pm (as do Primary 3 for the first term and part of each week thereafter), while our older pupils stay until 3pm. However, many pupils remain in school until 5pm with wraparound care, enjoying a range of activities each day from homework club, arts and crafts, cookery, Lego and much more. This is a popular service which is a cost-effective solution for many of our parents.

Don't take our word for it though... arrange an appointment to view our super school for yourself. You won't be disappointed!
